Tip of the Day: PRP, the Regenerative Treatment Made From Your Own Plasma

  • Tip of the day

Hello beautiful people, today’s tip of the day is about PRP, the treatment I like to call always a yes. It is made from your own blood, so nothing foreign is being introduced, and it can be used for the face, the under-eye area and hair loss. Here is how it works and what a course involves.

Dr Rami Haidar | 29th August 2025 | Excellence Medical Boutique, Dubai

What is PRP treatment?

PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is a regenerative treatment prepared from a small sample of your own blood. The blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate the plasma and concentrate the platelets. Platelets carry growth factors involved in tissue repair, and when the concentrated plasma is returned to the skin or scalp, these growth factors support collagen production and healing.

Because PRP comes from your own body, the risk of an allergic reaction to the product itself is very low. That is why Dr Rami describes it as the treatment that is always a yes. It is still not right for everyone, and patients with certain blood disorders, active infection or those taking blood-thinning medication may need a different approach.

How is PRP used, and how many sessions are needed?

At Excellence Medical Boutique, Dr Rami uses PRP for facial rejuvenation, the under-eye area and hair loss. On the face, PRP is often applied with microneedling, which is why the skin looks red and briefly bloody straight after treatment, and why it is sometimes called a vampire facial. Under the eyes, small amounts support thin skin where skin quality contributes to dark circles. On the scalp, it is injected to support hair follicles in suitable types of thinning.

The usual course is three sessions, three weeks apart. PRP works through gradual repair, so improvements in texture, tone and firmness build over the weeks after each session. Maintenance is typically planned once or twice a year, and the redness after a facial session usually settles within a day or two.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is PRP treatment?

PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is a treatment prepared from a small sample of your own blood. The blood is spun to concentrate the platelets, which carry growth factors involved in tissue repair. The concentrated plasma is then applied to the face, under-eye area or scalp to support regeneration.

Why is PRP considered such a safe option?

Because PRP is made from your own blood, the risk of an allergic reaction to the product itself is very low. It is still a medical procedure, and bruising, swelling or temporary redness can occur. It is not suitable for everyone, so your medical history is reviewed at consultation first.

How many PRP sessions do I need?

A typical course is three sessions spaced around three weeks apart. Maintenance treatments are often planned once or twice a year afterward. Your exact plan depends on the area treated and how your skin or scalp responds.

What can PRP be used for?

At Excellence Medical Boutique, Dr Rami uses PRP for facial rejuvenation, the under-eye area and hair loss. On the face it supports texture, tone and skin quality. On the scalp it is used to support hair follicles in suitable types of thinning.

Why does my face look red after PRP?

When PRP is combined with microneedling, the skin is briefly red and may show small spots of blood, which is why it is sometimes called a vampire facial. This is an expected part of the treatment. The redness usually settles within a day or two.

Can PRP help dark circles under the eyes?

PRP may help when dark circles are linked to thin, crepey skin or poor skin quality, because it supports collagen and tissue repair. It does not correct significant hollowness or pigmentation on its own. The cause of your dark circles is assessed first so the right treatment can be chosen.

Who should not have PRP?

PRP may not be suitable for people with certain blood or platelet disorders, active infection in the treatment area, some cancers, or those taking blood-thinning medication. Pregnancy is also usually a reason to wait. Dr Rami reviews your medical history before recommending treatment.
