Treating the chin in isolation is one of the more common reasons lower face results look off. The chin does not sit on its own. It sits between the mental crease above it and the marionette lines running down on either side, and those three areas form one continuous surface. Add projection to the chin while leaving the crease and the lines exactly as they were, and the folds can read as deeper than they did before, simply by contrast.

The chin sits between the mental crease above it and the marionette lines beside it, and the three form one continuous area. Adding projection to the chin alone can make the surrounding folds look deeper by contrast. Treating the area as one unit keeps the transitions smooth and softens the whole lower face.
The mental crease is the horizontal fold that sits between the lower lip and the chin. It often becomes more defined with age as soft tissue support is lost and as the muscles of the lower face pull downward with expression. It is one of the areas Dr Rami assesses alongside the chin itself.
Marionette lines run down from the corners of the mouth toward the jaw and develop as volume and structural support in the lower face reduce, with repeated muscle activity deepening them over time. Skin quality and the position of the chin both influence how noticeable they are. The cause in your case is established at consultation.
Restoring support to the chin can influence how the marionette lines look, because the two areas sit next to each other. It does not always improve them on its own, and in some patients a chin treated in isolation makes the lines more obvious. This is why the areas are usually planned together.
