Swelling in the upper lip and perinasal area is expected in the first one to two weeks and can temporarily make the result appear more pronounced than the final outcome. Sutures are usually removed within five to seven days. The lip will settle into its final position over the following four to six weeks.
The scar at the base of the nose fades progressively. In most patients, once fully matured (which takes three to twelve months depending on skin type), it becomes difficult to detect. Scar outcome depends on skin type, the surgeon’s technique, and post-operative care.
The structural change produced by a lip lift is permanent. The philtrum does not return to its previous length. Natural aging will continue after the procedure, and the philtrum may gradually elongate further over decades, though from a shorter starting point.
